The opening of the first NTV service centre
Winning project of the 2009 competition held by the transportation company NTV, born from a concept created by milanese architects

Casa .Italo is the idea for a new type of service centre to aid travelers.
Conceived as a fluid and technological space, its surfaces are an interactive and communicative interface: a dynamic environment that can change depending on the needs of the travelers and their waiting times.

The architecture of the perimeter of the Casa .italo integrates the technological equipment of the various devices for the services offered.
The outer face provides services and information for the traveler who has a minimal waiting time: ticket vending machines, which when not in use by passengers are used for communication; information on departures and arrivals; led strips with real-time news.

Instead on the Inside the traveler who has longer waiting times is accommodated, so in addition to services and information, they are offered the chance to spend time with various interfaces for browsing content and are able to use the large interactive WIFI table to work or surf the net.

The setting of the multimedia exhibition Superurbano - Sustainable Urban Regeneration is a harmonious blend between lightscape and soundscape, a sensory journey that takes the visitor into an ideal city with a strong visual impact.

In this labyrinthine space the visitor’s path is littered with sensory events.
With the activity of walking and getting lost, the visitor becomes the active composer of sounds, voices and noises of the ideal city and the main character of the dynamic luminous volumes that make the city up.

The three main towers accommodate the projects on display, explained through a dynamic and interactive interface.

Architectural videomapping made for Domus - Urban Futures

An architectural videomapping project transforms the courtyard space of Opificio 31 into an immersive, dynamic and enveloping environment.

The animations, created to emphasize the architecture of the facades, mingle and merge with evocative portraits of the city of Milan, music by Giuseppe Ielasi and readings taken from “12 stories of low-density city of Milan” written by Paolo Inverni.
The video projections, in the late evening, accompanied the rhythm of the live sets of DJ Rupture and DJ N-Ron.

The concept of the winning design for the competition organized by NTV in 2009, is a collaboration between Stefano Boeri Architetti and dotdotdot, that proposes a new type of service centre to travelers, conceived as a fluid and technological space.

The project Casa Italo transforms all the surfaces into an interactive and communicative interface that meets all the traveler’s needs and gives a direct correspondence on the train waiting times and services.

District seat is the first “start up ” event of Nil 28, an association that seeks to begin a process of enhancement of the Molise district in Umbria through a close dialogue between residents and the world of creativity.

A table of over 130 meters was set up along via Cadolini thanks to the imagination of the creative professionals who have joined the initiative.
To sit together at the table each person took a chair with them, as a symbolic self-invitation.

An interactive system of dynamic visualization located in the new boutique in Monaco of Bavaria, becomes the means to describe and present customers with products and news from the world of Nespresso.
A multi-touch table in the centre of the entrance and welcome area communicates with the video wall sculpture projected in 3D.

The surface of the table, sensitive to the touch of your fingers, allows visitors to interact with the interface and to check the contents choosing how to browse, move, rotate, enlarge the information of images, videos and descriptive texts.

The visitors, touching the table, as well as browsing the contents of the Nespresso product lines, can also interact with the 3D wall projection, transmitting graphics and visual effects in each category.

A platform extends, bends, breaks, branches, and accompanies us.
A metaphor for how technology pervades our daily lives, our habits.

The main defining feature of the space is its permeability.
The perception of a flexible open space, where functions can coexist while maintaining an adequate level of privacy due to their location.

The supporting screens of different activities are turned into telescopes, offered to the city.
Passers-by can now spy on and observe everything that happens at the Festival.

The exhibition area consists of an element that rises and houses irregular polyhedral shapes, set like gems, aiming to show the contents of the exhibition in a dynamic way.

PUNTI DI VISTA - memories of places and people.

The project stems from a reflection on point of view, that it is not only a technical and mechanical rule of the eye, but that it is also a subjective world of personal interpretation, a mode of narration, a perspective of observation.

The installation ‘PUNTI DI VISTA’ interprets the history of places and people of Piedicastello, linking events and their protagonists in the past, present, future, choosing to tell it through the use of a personal and geographical point of view.

A multi-user interactive table designed for the new trophies hall of Inter, that tells the glorious history of the Milan-based club, reviving through images and videos the most exciting moments of the team.

The table therefore becomes a great historical archive available to users, which on top of showing all the information pertaining to the virtual trophy chosen, controls the lights of the cups in the room, illuminating with greater intensity the corresponding trophy.

Operation:
The back projected surface of the table is sensitive to finger touch and responds to multiple inputs simultaneously.
The interface of the large multi-touch display, let’s you control everything with your fingers and with a single touch you can flick, scroll or zoom images, videos and descriptive texts.

Pitti Bimbo - New View

The project stems from the need to rethink the exhibition space, to study a new method of flexible and dynamic stand design, where the spatial arrangement is not repetitive but invites the visitor to proceed, intriguing the visitor and pushing him to continue his path.

The new concept, with an open plan, breaks the shape of the classic stand and takes on a contemporary character, stands are no longer pigeonholed into rigid perimeters, but every individual piece takes part in the construction of the general atmosphere, a collective value.

The exhibition stands, conceived as modularly equipped scenes, rotate, delimiting the areas belonging to exhibitors depending on spacial needs, and are also equipped with modular elements, depending on the different display needs. The atmosphere is reminiscent of a work in progress, an atelier, an avant-garde creative laboratory where work is produced and displayed, where everything is in continuous transformation and experimentation.

There is a sense of contemporary culture.
The project also recalls the wooden toys of children, the laminated fir-wood creates a warm atmosphere, the graphics located on the equipped modular scenes give a fresh feeling and participate in the dreamy construction of the imaginary world of a child.

Pinko Store Stylist Event

Immersive projections, conceived for Pinko on the occasion of the presentation event of the new videocatalogue multitouch “Store Stylist”, created a path to pass through for all the guests.

A wall with videoprojections of 23 metres height was sincronized with the 12 Store Stylist designed by dotdotdot for the Pinko stores showing the images of the new advertising campain shooted by Terry Richardson, the videos of the new fashion show and selected companies information.

At the end of the event the guests have been invited to glance through the pages of the Black collection by Pinko.

Outside, on the Pinko headquarter’s walls a dynamic setting created an emotional atmosphere.

The exhibition setting is a reinterpretation of the concept of “emporium”, the place that from ancient times was dedicated to the market and where imported and local goods was exchanged.
As in the original construction, the exhibition setting is organized and conceived to welcome, distribute and show the artworks arrived in Milan from far away through a transcontinental journey.

As for the steps of the Roman emporium, settle for distributing in a functional way the products, the exhibition setting, shaped as small islands, is designed creating platforms of different heights, horizontal levels and vertical walls.

The choice of a natural and comfortable material as the cardboard together with the use of a soft light contributes to create a warm atmosphere characterized by a charming oriental attitude where the visitor is magically involved.

The exhibition setting for the event L’Altro Uomo, that took place in the beautiful location of the Fortezza da Basso, was especially created with the aim to enhance the visibility of the companies involved and help the public in the enjoyment of the happening.

The long way approach was divided in frames, singles sections rhythmically repeated creating a new kinetic image.
The visitor, passing along the different spaces, had the sensation to walk through an optical tunnel due to the chromatic choice and variation of black and white.

The frames, joint together in couple thanks to a system of grooves able to alternate black and white, become the driving element of the two- way flows, one totally white and the other totally black spotted by some touch of red used for the graphic design and the brand communication as for the rest seats between one frame and the following one.

Let’s make an exciting
journey in search of the unseen; let’s become Mister X, a mysterious explorer.
dotdotdot has created for Donati Group an evocative multimedia exhibition setting, a walk across the macromolecules of the
aluminium for the discovery of its extraordinary potentialities and the innovative processing techniques developed by Donati.

The molecular structure of the aluminium together with its polyhedric composition appear in front of our eyes disclosing us an
unknown dimension where technology and material meet.
Cyclopic telescopes come down form the molecular walls showing us the real structure of aluminium, a material characterized by a polyhedric geometry that Donati synthesizes in Doluflex®, an aluminium structural panel that seems to come directly form the future, light, resistant, incombustible and 100% recyclable.

MisterX will feel like entering in an astral landscape with a rarefied air, walking on structures and composition realized by Donati with the IronX® system able to turn a flat surface into a tridimensional objects characterized by infinite shapes, of an incredible complexity perfect in every detail. The aluminium used for the exhibition setting is Bandoxaldécor™ supplied by Almeco Spa, a versatile and multifunctional
material characterized by an extraordinary scenic effect.

The telescopes coming out from the space as huge and interactive kaleidoscopes, present at their inside the images of projects,

The exhibition setting created for the first edition of Surfacin’, an event specifically focused on materials, will be an interactive console designed as an useful tool for the visitors, able to widen their technical knowledge and help in the collection of information about the exhibited materials and the companies taking part at the event.

It will be a multimedia catalogue, easy to consult and able to satisfy immediately the needs of the visitors.

A series of samples at disposal for everyone will be exhibited, revealing and disclosing information, words and images about the company involved.

RFID. Top Diamond Club

The event that took place in the Golf Hotel in Madonna di Campiglio, was structured as a journey through video exhibition settings telling the story of Top Diamond Club world.

To communicate and enhance the sense of exclusiveness and uniqueness that characterizes the company, every visitor had a RFID card with which interacted personally with the exhibition setting’s parts; the data registered in the card became components of the video exhibition setting that interpreted and screened them in a dynamic way.

The third-dimensional video reproduced a raw diamond with the aim to communicate a particular laser cut manufacturing process.
The guest with his personal RFIDTag card, interacting with the exhibition setting, could see his name projected and carved on the diamond.

A virtual catalogue presented, as a huge manual, the contents to be communicated to the visitors.

PINKO - interactive store

An interactive boutique in Naples.
Pinko proposes for its new concept store in Naples an innovation mine, a place where different creative perspectives meet and exchange as fashion, architecture, art and interactional design.

The interactional design that dotdotdot had especially created for the Pinko store of Naples, designed by the studio Del Boca, born with the idea to underline the exclusiveness of the person, its active involvement touching, looking, playing…living a unique and innovative creative experience.

Evocative projections of the Pinko brand decorated the front during the opening attracting the attention of the passers-by.

At the boutique entrance the guests were welcomed and involved in a generative projection all around the shop creating a dynamic and emotional setting.
The people were at the same time spectators and actors of never alike animations taking part at their mutations and evolutions.
The graphic image could vary and be integrated with other effects on special occasions as the launch of a new collection.

In the VIP room an interactive video catalogue placed behind a mirrored wall showed to the shop assistants and to the clients all the Pinko collections, the new ones, the total look and the fashion shows.
The video catalogue, weekly updated by the company, is a simple and intuitive way of consulting.

Inside the store interactive mirrors able to perceive the people presences, create special effects in a dreaming and magic atmosphere made of messages, words, butterflies, flowers, skelanimals and witches for the youngest Pinko clients.

Sacmi - Tecnoargilla 2008

An exhibition setting that virtually recreates the working of the new model of Riedhammer kiln through a linear path developed in 3 rooms that tells the story of the product characterized by quality, technology and innovation.

The exhibition settings, without the presence of the kiln, is able to create a communication with the visitors, informing them on the innovative performance of the new product through a sensorial and involving experience.

Sele - Next floor

The installation was conceived as a dream journey.
The elevator, the means of transport for this journey, was reconceputalized in terms of its emotional elements: the waiting, the claustrophobia, the unexpected, the passing of time that seems dilated.

The elevator becomes a machine for transport through parallel worlds, it becomes the place to live an emotional experience, sensory, visual and resonant. It’s the visitor that leads this journey, this experience becoming an active presence inside the narration.

Virtual mirrors: between real world and reflected reality.
The mirror is a way of recognizing and identifying oneself, a self-portrait in real time, a temptation towards the vanity that captures the attention of everybody. During a stay in the car, the visitor is surrounded by contemporary stares of a different and infinite “I”: in front, behind, right and left.

More than the multiplied deformations of reality - that make you live the sensory experience as if in a state of recognition-confusion - the visitor, simply with his presence, interacts with the mirrored surfaces that become supports for the graphic contents. The mirror renders the image reflected, laying it over the digital one, broken up, generated by the person’s presence.

Resonant Sculpture: rhythms in crescendo.
The car becomes a tunnel to cross. A tunnel woven by black cables, suffused with red light and 100 speakers accompany the visitor towards the exploration of this acoustic, immersive installation. Inside, the visitor, with his own presence and his own movement, becomes actor-compositor of the crescendo rhythms for scenarios of waiting scanned by the sound.

Push the buttons: scenarios in becoming.
The elevator becomes the way of escape, a dromoscopic machine, emotional, sensory, audio-visual. Two bright buttons as the journey’s synthesis, the elevator and the descent towards future scenarios, unexplored places, far from space and from time.

Pressing a key, the visitor reveals a scenario, personally addressing his own virtual journey. The door becomes a curtain, the shutters close with each command like an emotional threshold, crossing to get inside a parallel dimension.

Milano Film Festival

Sagrato Teatro Strehler and Piazza del Canonne Parco Sempione, Milano.

The installation for the Milan Film Festival was conceived as a big construction site displayed in the city.
The language of the installation, chosen in accord with Esterni’s philosophy, helped integrate the numerous structures of the Festival into the urban fabric.

The materials, scaffolding, couplings and containers for the structure, debris netting for the covering, planks, trouble lights and signal lights for the lighting, defined the aesthetics of the intervention.

Teatro Strehler- Sagrato
Considered the heart of the Festival, this theater hosted the bar with terrace, the stage, the infopoint and the bookstore.

Parco Sempione- Piazza Cannone
Displayed inside of the park, one finds the large structure with the projection screen and the bar-restaurant, the stage with the technical mixing tower, the containers for the production and the infopoint.

Trentatrentini presents a projected sequence of 33 Trentini (residents of the city of Trento) facing the wall. When the visitor gets close, the person projected will turn interacting with the visitor, reciting the famous tongue twister that references the city.

The wall transforms from physical-material element to perceptive-sensorial experience, a narrative space that unites, with irony, fragments of the lives of the city’s inhabitants.
The visible surface becomes sensitive to the visitor’s presence, which can generate an exchange, an encounter, a scenario, a reflection, a fragment of memory.

Tiscali TV

Interactive floor and sensitive table.
On occasion of the gala night that took place in Rome, May the 8th for the presentation of Tiscali’s new TV ‘on demand’, dotdotdot created an interactive floor with the purpose of welcoming guests and a sensitive table for presenting the programming offered.

Sensitive table: with the movement of your hands you can interact with the interface projected on the table top without touching the surface, you can reveal the different programming offered by the new TV.

Interactive floor: crossing a black floor, the presence of each person is highlighted with the Tiscali logo that pops up on the floor accompanying the person to the entrance.

Citröen - moving landscape

Moving Landscape is an installation conceptualized as a course, a journey through a landscape that transforms itself: from nature to city. It’s a spaciotemporal path made of suggestions that accompany the visitor through material-geometrical perceptions and digital sensory experiences.

Immersive and involving experiences where volumes get dematerialized, lose their physicality, give way to a surreal scenario animated by projections, hosting unforgettable evening encounters.

Valcucine’s skyscraper is a volumetric composition to be experienced in its “tridimensionality” as an exposition of content.
Singular element, but also divisible in form and in the way of being read, the skyscraper animates itself with its faces, becoming a support on which it’s possible to project images and videos with strong emotional impact.

Two design objects conceived by dotdotdot for Plusdesign - project of Lilia Laghi and Mariano Pichler, a gallery and a brand dedicated to design, to artistic experimentation and to the appreciation of excellence.

“La Cultura Eleva” (“Culture Elevates”) is an inhabitable shelf that disrupts the typical behavior of that inhabited space dedicated to the domestic ritual that is reading.

“Hot Mirror” is an auto-defrosting mirror for hot and wet environments. A game that makes use of domestic water vapor, play between the real world and the reality reflected.

Aquafresh table

Aquafresh “iso-active” interactive table. For the press conference of this new toothpaste “iso-active”, Aquafresh commissioned dotdotdot to create a display table on which to present the new product.

It consists of a sensitive surface able to mutate and evolve when an object is moved or placed on top of it.
Taking cues from the product itself, the animations evolve from liquid consistency to a foamy one, assuming both symbolic and recreational value at the same time.

Rome and Jerusalem are in constant connection. Hardware and software interact with the visitor, mapping movement in the environment.
Thanks to a hidden videocamera behind the projection surface, the scene will be rendered as if it were a big mirror.

The same camera, connected to the computer, will react like a sensor able to capture and map the actions that take place in the environment (thanks to a video tracking software).

The system reacts when people get close to the mirror. The visitor looks at himself in the mirror seeing how his reflection vanishes to reveal what is happening in the other container, monitored by a web cam, as if to open a door to a distant place.

If in the other container another person gets close to the respective mirror, the encounter happens.
Otherwise it will remain simply a passage.

36h - Lea ceramiche

Lea ceramiche (Lea’s ceramics): 36h. a story about a trip in 6 stops
Event conceived for the presentation of the new collection of Lea Ceramiche.
The exhibition is conceived as a theatrical path, made of tactile, visual and sound suggestions; the dynamic and interactive video-environments accompany the visitor through unexpected meetings, merging technology and ceramic matter.

36h. A tale of a trip in six stops, a chronological-spatial path to board an airplane, reach the room of a hotel, relax among the vapours of a spa, indulge in a dinner, get lost in the streets of an unknown city, visit the local market and at the end, leave.
It is a suggestion created through perceptions of matter and digital sensorial experiences.

8.35 a.m. 007 in special mission
1,400 sq. m. of dynamic projections on the exterior walls of the showroom simulate flap boards.
An airplane about to take off approaches unexpectedly. This first scenario, characterised by a strong scenographic impact, opens up the internal expositive path and creates the background for the entertainment of the hosts during evenings.

12.30 a.m. (interiors. day)
A composition of 9 volumes with 27 faces becomes the support onto which the events of a hotel are told.
From the exteriors to the interiors, from the general view to the detail: neon signs that flash, steps along a never-ending hall, a lift that seems to never end its trip, the noise of keys, a pelting shower of a luxurious hotel room.

1.10 p.m. h20
Drops of vaporized water on a glass surface hide the shadows of visitors.
A hidden telecamera at the entrance captures their profiles and with a feedback of a few seconds, they are returned to the SPA scenario.

8.32 p.m. penombra jazz (jazz gloom)
Tables, onto which outlines of cutlery are projected, stage a dinner in a bistro. The captions of the thoughts of fellow guests scroll. With the approaching of people to tables, the outlines become real images, the captions become recited thoughts.

10.24 a.m. persi nel dedalo (lost in the maze)
11 vertical volumes make up the scenario of a city. The 33 projected faces narrate in a dynamic manner, the experience of getting lost, walking among people, in the frenetic traffic, in maze-like districts, raising the head to capture the verticality of buildings, their repetitive textures, the vertical sections on the sky…

4.17 p.m. carta e vinile (paper and vinyl)
A static image of piled up objects becomes sensitive to the passage of people. The movement of visitors reveals another hidden image, upon each passage: details of objects, colours, suggestions of a market.

Platinum loves pearls

Decoration realized for the presentation of the new collection of jewels of Platinum Guild International.
Multimedial video-projections transform expositive spaces into ethereal environments dominated by the water component.

The space becomes liquid, the softened sound is rhythmically fluid. The visitor lives an involving, enthralling and fascinating experience implemented by the interactive component that renders it sole protagonist of this magical water path at the discovery of precious hidden jewels. Ceiling and walls become the glasses of a large aquarium in which the visitor is immersed. With a sinuous movement, the platinum jewels and pearl float in the water and are deposited at the bottom. Thanks to a telecamera and a video-projector, the visitor is reflected with a magical slow-motion effect, on the glasses-walls of the large aquarium, emphasizing the immersion effect which dominates the entire decoration.

Table and floor interact with the simple gestures of visitors.

Interactive table
An interactive table becomes a multimedial hyper-catalogue that offers the possibility to consult the presented contents in an unusual and enthralling way. With the simple gesture to “touch” sensitive areas, highlighted by the graphic interface, the user becomes actor who carries the consultation through an intuitive interaction. The contents are browsed as in a large book, simply by touching the table surface. The technology used consists of 1 computer, 1 video-projector, 4 touch buttons and one Tinker.it module.

Interactive floor
The floor covered with sea salt becomes sensitive to the passage of people who are accompanied by a moving water trail when they walk on it. 2 computers, 3 video-projectors and 3 telecameras mapped the presence of people in the space, returning an image, a trail, a moving water flow that was accompanying them along the entrance path.

Large technological mirrors, live projections of what occurs in the space. Hardware and software interact with the visitor, mapping his movements in the environment. The system reacts to the features of people, when they look at each other.
The visitor that looks at himself sees his reflected image accompanied by a fluctuating thought that follows him, a sentence or simply a word.
The same visitors carry the content of thoughts in real time, by sending sms: at each visitor a thought, at each though a face.

A path of blue light opens up an ethereal white environment.
The visitor lives inside of it, a feeling of being lost and of spatial overturning, given by the disorienting accidental points of the flooring.
The original plan is rotated, re-designed and the pillars are doubled.
4 large mirrors amplify the sensorial experience.

A Milan-Berlin co-operation presents, during the Salone Internazionale del Mobile held in Milan on 18/23 April 2007 and the Designmai of Berlin_12/20 May 2007_ideas, solutions with a hook.
The entire design phase was coordinated through a net- workshop.
It will be an opportunity to compare different backgrounds, the Italian, Milanese one and the German, Berlinese one.
The project represents an opportunity to know the potentials of the two countries being compared: workshop, meetings, aperitifs, performances will be moments to exchange ideas, projects, intuitions.

Inauguration of the Triennial Exhibition of Bovisa, Base B, Milan. Interactive video installation. Visitors enter in a space sensitive to their presence and the system automatically draws a circle around them that will follow them during the entire permanence inside the area.
The circles are connected to one another through a thin white line, triggering an involving relational game.
